Holiday stress for parents
Fiona Baker from Body + Soul give us the info on Holiday stress for parents. Now you know you are not the only parent stressed out by holidaying with the kids.
For many parents, family holidays can be more stressful than work.
New research has claimed Australians are ditching holidays in favour of staying at work. Perhaps, though, it’s actually because they have young kids.
Having youngsters in tow doesn’t always enhance the holiday experience, a separate study from the University of Ballarat recently suggested.
In fact, it found family holidays are more stressful than work. “Reducing stress is one of the main reasons parents plan holidays,” says senior tourism lecturer Dr Elisa Backer. “But for more than 20 per cent of people, their stress levels actually increased and another 16 per cent said their stress levels were unchanged.”
She says many parents find a family holiday just transplants their domestic drudgery to another location which is not as well set up for their needs.
